For Teachers
Burn Awareness Week is designed to teach kids how to be responsible for their personal safety, and increase family awareness of potentially harmful situations. The program takes only one to two hours to implement in your classroom. We supply all the materials you need to make the program a success. These tools not only help keep your students safe, they provide you with a fun, educational unit that is easy to incorporate into your yearly lesson plan.
Students are invited to enter the annual Burn Awareness Week Poster Contest. Every entrant wins a participation prize and fifty students can win money for their elementary school or BC Ministry of Education sanctioned distance education facility. There are seven regional prizes to be awarded, including a $1,000 grand prize and six $500 regional prizes. Regions are the Lower Mainland (three winners), Vancouver Island, Kootenays, Northern BC and the Okanagan (one winner for each area). Forty-three students win runner-up prizes of $50 each for their school or distance education facility. Complete prize details, rules and regulations are listed online at www.burnfund.org/BAW.
We thank our Sponsors of Burn Awareness Week for their continued
support.

WHAT TEACHERS SAY ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
"As a Grade 1 teacher, I loved your Burn Awareness Week Program. We used the sheets and our Smart Board to complete all of the activities and we were able to play the kitchen game. By having the Smart Board, it was easy to load the web site into favorites and bring it up in seconds. We know about 'tests' so the quiz was appropriate, as was the certificate. For our final activity, we will submit our fire prevention posters. Thank you for designing an easy to use, applicable program."
Sandra Yeast, Teacher, David Thompson Elementary
"Donations from generous people like you help us in continuing our mission to help our underprivileged students have a healthy meal before learning. Our salad bar program promotes healthy eating habits among our students by providing a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables for lunch twice a week. Your financial support enables us to bring some solace to the underpriviledged in our locality which in turn has helped in achieving significant educational benefits for the students that participate in this program."
Christina Nadeau, Secretary, Lake Kathlyn Elementary School
"We really enjoyed the Burn Awareness information provided on the website, and learning about fire safety. This week we had a visit from the Chilliwack Fire Department and enjoyed their presentation and hands-on actitivites enormously. Everyone was pretty excited about creating a poster. Thanks for making this possible for young learners. We surely appreciate your efforts in making all this available to students and helping us educate them about fire safety." Anthony Koster, teacher, Timothy Christian School
"My class listened keenly to the lessons and really enjoyed doing the Burn Awareness Posters. The contest is a great way of reaching students!."
Karen McLaren, teacher, Eric Langton Elementary School
"Thank you so much for sponsoring the Poster Contest for Burn Awareness Week. My students thoroughly enjoyed discussing fire safety and having the opportunity to submit their entries for this contest."
Eva Collins, teacher, Riverview Park Elementary School
"Thank you for the Burn Awareness information and activity sheets.. It turned out that one of my students was burned quite badly on her legs the same week that we received the package. It made the whole class even more aware of how easily accidents can happen."
J. Jarvis, teacher, Captain James Cook Elementary School
"My grade 7 class had an informative mini-unit on burn awareness. The students had many interesting ideas and stories to share regarding the issue. As a teacher, I would like to thank you for providing a unit that was not only informative, but engaging at the same time."
S. Bains, teacher, Thomas Kidd Elementary
