STANLEY PARK, Vancouver — Hundreds of people are working harder than Santa’s elves to meet the Bright Nights opening deadline.  They’re transforming ten acres of Stanley Park into a magical, illuminated world of over a million lights, colorful displays and seasonal presentations.

This Thursday, November 23, we invite the media to join BC’s Professional Fire Fighters, the staff from the Stanley Park Train and Children’s Farmyard, adult burn survivors, and even Santa, as everyone puts the finishing touches on the Ninth Annual Bright Nights in Stanley Park lighting event.

An annual tradition for many families in the Lower Mainland, over two hundred thousand people visit Bright Nights annually.  It is a joint event of the Vancouver Park Board and the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.

The event runs from Friday, December 1 until Tuesday, January 2, 2007.  Hours are 3 PM to 10 PM daily.  It is closed Christmas Day.

Bright Nights in Stanley Park Raises Money for the Burn Fund

Preventing Victims, Empowering Survivors - Partial proceeds from the train and all donations at the event help raise funds for the important work carried out by the British Columbia Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund.  The fundraising goal for this year is $200 thousand.

The Burn Fund provides life saving, life supporting, and life enriching services to the people in British Columbia. More than 3,400 professional fire fighters from forty-eight communities around the province are building the Burn Fund’s vision. They dedicate their time and skills to support burn survivors and increase the public’s knowledge about fire and burn safety issues through the work the Burn Fund does with its Burn Awareness, Research and Prevention Programs.  For information visit www.burnfund.org.
