PORT MOODY - Port Moody Firefighters Local 2399 will be chipping Christmas trees January 8 and 9 at #1 Firehall, with proceeds to British Columbia's Professional Firefighters Burn Fund.

"Tree chipping is a very popular way of disposing of Christmas trees," said firefighter Will Patterson. "So it makes sense to offer this service to Port Moody residents while fundraising for the Burn Fund."

The burn fund is dedicated to burn prevention, as well as survivor support and recovery programs in the province of British Columbia.

Chipping will take place January 8 and 9 from 9am to 4pm. The cost is by donation, with a $5 minimum. Coffee and hot chocolate will also be available, as well as vehicle vacuuming services. Firefighters will also be demonstrating how quickly dry Christmas trees can go up in flames. Tinsel and decorations should be removed from trees.

Firehall #1 is located at 200 Ioco Road, at Murray Street.
