40th ANNIVERSARY - THE OLD SPAGHETTI FACTORY!
There will be pasta galore served on Monday, March 22nd as the BC Professional Fire Fighters' join in the 40th Anniversary celebration of The Old Spaghetti Factory!
"Lordy, lordy, look who's 40! The Old Spaghetti Factory in Gastown turns 40 on March 22, and from 11am - 9pm on that day, they'll offer the original 1970 menu with a variety of spaghetti sauces, at 1970 prices. The meal, with spaghetti, salad and dessert will cost - get ready - $1.75. All proceeds from these spaghetti dishes will go to the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund. Since opening its first restaurant, The Old Spaghetti Factory has become a chain with branches in New Westminster, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Banff, Langley, Victoria and Abbotsford and has served more than 12 million guests and millions of meatballs. (The 1970 menu is offered at the Gastown location only.)

MEDIA ADVISORY - MEDIA DAY at Bright Nights in Stanley Park
STANLEY PARK, VANCOUVER - On Monday, November 23, we invite the media to join BC's Professional Fire Fighters, the staff from Stanley Park Train and Children's Farmyard and even Santa, as everyone puts the finishing touches on the Twelfth Annual Bright Nights in Stanley Park lighting event. The displays and live entertainment will spotlight the fun of the great Canadian outdoors.
An annual tradition for many families in the Lower Mainland, over 250,000 visit Bright Nights each year. A joint venture of the Vancouver Park Board and the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund. Bright Nights runs from Friday, November 27, 2009 until January 2, 2010. Hours are 3pm to 10pm daily. It is closed on Christmas Day. Please note: the Farmyard closes at 9pm daily.

VANCOUVER - Nearly two-thirds of fireworks injuries to Canadian children happen to kids in BC. Of those, almost 90% occur around Halloween. 5 – 10 children come to BC Children’s Hospital with injuries from fireworks every year. One of the ways we can educate children, their families and the general public is by issuing a series of safety tips at Halloween.

MEDIA ADVISORY - Media Invited to the 16th Annual Burn Camp Kick Off
SURREY - The BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund Burn Camp kicks off this Sunday, July 19 with 61 young burn injured children, 10 junior counsellors, and 53 counsellors and support staff heading up to Squamish for a week of fun. A pancake breakfast and Camp Kick Off celebration is set for Sunday, July 19 from 9 AM to Noon at the Cloverdale Athletic Park in Surrey. Surrey Fire Fighters Local 1271 hosts the celebration.
MEDIA ARE INVITED to meet the campers, chat with their families and the camp’s counsellors who donate their time — professional fire fighters, burn unit doctors & nurses and adult burn survivors — all who make up ‘Burn Camp 2009.’

Capilano Suspension Bridge donates $20,000 towards Burn Awareness Week
The Capilano Suspension Bridge donated $20,000 in support of the 13th Annual Burn Awareness Week. They raised the funds during their Christmas event "Canyon Lights". They also raised an additional $990 through donations from gingerbread cookie decorating for the Burn Fund's annual summer camp for burn injured children.

Hometown Heroes Lottery 2008 Winners Announced
VANCOUVER, B.C. — Thank you for your support of the Hometown Heroes Lottery, a partnership of the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund and the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation.
In additional to helping fund VGH and UBC Hospitals, your ticket purchase helps the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit. Lottery proceeds also benefit educational programs of the BC Professional Firefighters’ Burn Fund and the young burn survivors at their burn camp. The commitment to support the Burn Unit is ongoing, and the Burn Fund will continue to fund essential burn survivor support programs, staff training and statistical and research programs.

Media Invited to the 15th Annual Burn Camp Kick Off
WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. — The BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund Burn Camp kicks off this Sunday, July 20th with 73 young burn injured children and junior counsellors who are burn survivors themselves and 59 counsellors and support staff heading up to Squamish for a week of fun. Campers and their counsellors participate in group activities such as swimming, hiking, kayaking, rafting, a skit night, and arts & crafts. They also receive valuable one-on-one support from junior counsellors – themselves burn survivors – and from their counsellors.

Four on Four Hockey Tournament Raises Funds for the Burn Fund Building
NORTH VANCOUVER – Seventy-two members of West Vancouver Fire Fighters Local 1525, North Vancouver City Fire Fighters Local 296, North Vancouver District Fire Fighters Local 1183 and retired members participated in a four on four hockey tournament at Ice Sports in North Vancouver raising $2,500 for the Burn Fund Building. Concert Properties donates $750 Thousand in Services to the First Burn Fund Building in North America
VANCOUVER - Concert and its staff have joined with British Columbia’s Professional Fire Fighters to provide services to develop and manage their $25 million Burn Fund Building project.
A first in North America, The Burn Fund Building will contain suites for burn survivors and their families, an interactive, multi-media educational/resource component, and a research facility for clinical trials in burn and wound healing. Located in central Vancouver, the building’s first cornerstone will be dedicated during the British Columbia 2009 World Police & Fire Games.

Campbell River Fire Fighters raise $20,000 for the Burn Fund
Almost 400 people attended Campbell River Fire Fighters Local 1668's sold-out fundraiser Fashion Inferno 6 - "a black-tie affair". The event was held at the local community centre and featured a live auction. Fire fighters from Victoria helped with the event. Tony Burke, Executive Director of the Burn Fund, spoke to the crowd about the new Burn Fund Building project. Cambell River Burn Fund Local Representative, John Baker, said that monies raised this year were almost double from the year before.

Province Gives $2-Million Grant for Burn Survivors' Housing
A $2-million grant from the Province's Housing Endowment Fund was awarded to the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund Building, a devleopment that will provide eight units to accommodate burn survivors and their families during treatment periods.
Minister Responsible for Housing Rich Coleman made the announcement last night at the opening of the Tenth Annual Bright Nights in Stanley Park.
The building is a first in North America. It will contain suites for burn survivors and their families, an interactive multi media educational/resource component, and a research facility for clinical trials in burn and wound healing. The opening target date is set to coincide with the British Columbia 2009 World Police and Fire Games.
The City of Vancouver is part of this innovative partnership with the Burn Fund and the provincial government, and is working to find a suitable site for the building as part of its ongoing partnership with the Province.

Halloween Safety Tips
BC’s professional fire fighters wish that everyone has a safe, happy Halloween. Children from age five to 14 are most frequently involved in fireworks-related injuries, and the Burn Fund urges families to offer close adult supervision of all fireworks activities. Illegal explosives or homemade fireworks account for 30 per cent of the injuries associated with fireworks – those serious enough to require emergency room treatment if they are used by inexperienced amateurs – like burns, lacerations, amputations, and blindness.
