Cindy Thomsen graciously accepted her Courage to Come Back Award on May 6, 2010;
the following is an excerpt from her acceptance speech.
"My other love is the Fire Fighters' Burn Fund. The extra little things like TV's in every room make the long stays in the Burn Unit just a little more bearable. I don't have any fears going in for more surgeries, the Burn Unit feels like a second home. I'm so grateful for the educational and emotional support their 'Future is Mine' Program has offered me. It's given me the opportunity to meet other people who know what it's like to face the world with scarring and disfigurement.
I'm walking in the Burn Fund's Walk/Run on June 13th, so I challenge everybody here to get out and walk with me! Monies raised go for the new building planned for burn survivors and their families. In closing, I'd just like to remind everybody that the past is history, the future a mystery, all we have is the present, that's why I call it a gift!" |
