BCPFF Burn, Plastic and Trauma Unit at VGH Equipment Wish List
VAC Therapy Machine $19,500 The Vacuum Assisted Closure suction machine is attached to a sponge in the wound which siphons off fluid, thereby decreasing bacterial load, and assists in development of granulation tissue (healing). Use of this machine often prevents the necessity for large operations, like skin grafting and skin flaps.
Orientation to the Burn Unit Video $20,000 The Burn Unit services all of BC except Vancouver Island and teaching materials are critical to the success of our programs. We have a list of several videos that we would like to make and now that health care resources are more limited, it is even more imperative that the Burn Team have tools that can assist them and save time. The Unit Orientation is first on the list because we would be able to use it to show patients and families when they arrive. It would also be used to educate other health care providers regarding our admission criteria and what types of patients we would encourage them to transfer to us.
CD Rom Hand Anatomy 400 This is needed for teaching staff and patients.
Total Care Bed $36,000 There are beds on the market that move the patient to a sitting position. We would like to have one of these beds for patients we cannot mobilize any other way.
Bear Hugger

Sponsored by:

$2300 plus $190/case-10 blankets This is a heated blanket. The blanket (disposable-used for one person for the length of their stay) attaches to a machine that keeps it heated at a set temperature. Used for various patients post operatively who are shivering and for burn patients who are unable to control their own temperature due to skin loss.
Doppler Monitor Two at $4000 Non-invasive machine for measuring blood flow through a re-implanted limb or digit or a free flap.
Flat Screen TVs 6 Due to the addition of mandatory ceiling lifts for safety reasons, the Burn Unit cannot keep the ceiling mounted TVs that are at the Unit now. Televisions are necessary to help distract patients, and aid in pain management for long stay patients especially. The TVs must be replaced -- starting with the high acuity beds.
Beds 14

The beds in the unit are 11 years old and starting to break down. They will need to be upgraded and replaced.  Cost to be determined.
