On behalf of BC’s thirty-six-hundred professional fire fighters from 49 communities all over the province, thank you for your support.
Our journey began in 1978 and continues today. Much has been done — and there is still much more to do.
We want to leave a legacy for the citizens of British Columbia, and one way is the support and ongoing relationship we have with the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn & Plastic Surgery Unit at Vancouver General Hospital, and the VGH / UBC Hospital Foundation.
Since the first cheque was presented over twenty-seven years ago to the Burn Unit Director Dr. Charles Snelling by Captain Alex Blake from Coquitlam Fire Fighters Local 1782, the Burn Fund has raised well over two-million dollars for the Burn Unit at VGH… we are very proud that the Burn Unit bears our name, in recognition of our ongoing support.
The involvement with the Burn Unit and now our sponsorship of the new BC Professional Fire Fighters' Burn and Wound Healing Research Laboratory are just two of the ways that the Burn Fund can leave a lasting legacy for the citizens of British Columbia.
We are happy to report that the final cheque in our $400 thousand dollar commitment to the Research Laboratory was given to the VGH Hospital Foundation on March 29th, 2005. Now, we have embarked on a capital campaign to raise over $25 million for The Burn Fund Building.
A first in North America, the building will include suites for burn survivors and their families, an interactive multi media / educational resource component and a research facility for clinical trials in burn and wound healing. Located in downtown Vancouver, the building will be dedicated during the British Columbia 2009 World Police and Fire Games.
Our success depends on the generosity of individuals … our sponsor partnerships with companies and foundations … and the hard work and dedication of our Professional Fire Fighter Locals.
We will continue to work tirelessly for the citizens of British Columbia and our Burn Survivors, and we look forward to working with you in the future.
